Then on April 13, our daughter and son-in-law in Columbus gave us our
first beautiful little grandson, Beckett Campbell. Again I spent time
with them helping out as everyone settled into a schedule. All are doing
great! So now I'm rested and mentally and physically back to business,
and am so excited to announce plans for this year's Buckeye Sewing
Retreat. We are going to Amish Country this Fall!!
Date: October 31, November 1-2, 2008 (Friday – Sunday)
Place: Charm Countryview Inn, on Rt. 557 between Charm and Farmerstown,
Ohio in Holmes County

I recently visited this beautiful bed and breakfast, and I cannot
wait to hold our retreat there. The dictionary defines retreat as "a
place affording peace, quiet, privacy or seclusion", and that definitely
describes the Inn. To see for yourself, check out their website at:
www.charmcountryviewinn.com.
The package includes 2 nights' stay (Friday and Saturday), a catered
family-style dinner at an Amish farm Friday evening, a full country
breakfast and evening snack on Saturday, hearty continental breakfast on
Sunday morning, box lunch to go Sunday noon, registration and
demonstration fees, and our usual prizes and surprises. Dinner Saturday
evening is on your own. Price: $294/person, based on double occupancy.
This is a REDUCTION IN COST FROM LAST YEAR! I'm hoping this will help
offset rising gas prices, and I encourage carpooling if possible. To
register, click here for a Registration Form to download
and print.
They have a limited number of rooms available, so I will accept
reservations on a first come, first serve basis. Also, the quilt shops
in the area are having a Shop Hop that weekend!! Retreat registration
will begin at 12:00 noon on Friday. In the event you would want to come
a day early and stay Thursday evening too, I have reserved a very few
rooms for that night at a reduced rate. The Inn does not have
televisions; however, OSU has a bye that weekend. Great timing!
We will have all new demonstrations and projects, including a "stash
swap", things to do with a fat quarter (fabric, not money!), and of
course, show and tell. An agenda with more details comes later.
So line up those unfinished projects, grab a friend or plan to make
new ones, and mark your calendar for this great getaway weekend. The
Charm Countryview Inn is described as "the perfect place to restore your
spirit". I can't say it any better than that! I look forward to seeing
you there.
P.S. Be prepared to see pictures of my grandbabies at the retreat!
OHIO UNIVERSITY APPLIQUÉ KITS
For Bobcat fans, I'm so excited to announce that my series of Ohio
University appliqué kits is also available through the Ohio University
Alumni Association's online store. To see the entire selection and to
order, go to
http://store.ohioalumni.org/s-95-sewing.aspx.
APPLIQUÉ KIT SEWING GUIDE
I have received several calls about Coats & Clark changing the
numbers on their spools that identify their thread colors. Alas, I'm
told that JoAnn stores are carrying the new thread series, but WalMart
still carries the old series, upon which my "Suggested Sewing Guide"
included in all of the appliqué kits is based. There is a
conversion table available on the Coats and Clark website to help determine thread color based on the new
numbering system. If you are experiencing problems determining the
appropriate thread color for a particular appliqué block, please go to
this page on the Coats and Clark website and click on "Color
Conversion Chart" towards the bottom of the page. Or you might want to find a WalMart in your area. I apologize for
this inconvenience. (No one at Coats & Clark asked my permission before
making this change!!!)
CLASSES
The Sampler Quilt Classes are going well at
Calico Cupboard, 74 Oak
Meadow Dr. in Pataskala, just off Rt. 16. Owner Sherry Monfort also has
a wonderful selection of scarlet, gray, black and white print fabrics.
Perfect for those Buckeye-themed projects. For more information or to
register for a class, contact Calico Cupboard at 740-927-2636.
WHERE TO FIND OUR LICENSED OSU KITS
Country Charm Fabrics, owned by Cindy Doggett, is a cozy
quilt shop housed in a former barn on her family's farm. It is located
at 1422 Twp. Rd. 593 near Ashland, OH. Take exit 186 east off of I-71,
go a couple miles on Rt. 250, then follow the signs to the shop.
Nautical Needle carries my full line of OSU appliqué
kits and youth sports patterns. Owner Jan Foard has moved her shop into
another building on their property, and has set up a "Buckeye corner".
She's got a great shop and a wonderful selection of fabrics and
supplies. So if you're in the area, stop in and check it out. Below is a complete listing of all Ohio shops
that carry our licensed OSU kits.
